Julian Casablancas participa en campaña publicitaria de tenis

Hoy cumple 30 años

El vocalista y compositor de la banda estadunidense The Strokes, Julian Casablancas, autor de temas como "Last nite" y "Hard to explain", cumplirá este sábado 30 años, luego de aparecer en la campaña publicitaria "My drivew thru".

La campaña de una reconocida marca de tenis es para celebrar sus 100 años dentro de la cultura popular y contó además con la colaboración de los músicos Pharrell Wlliams y Santi White, quienes son los protagonistas.

Casablancas nació el 23 de agosto de 1978 en Manhattan, Estados Unidos, es hijo de John Casablancas, fundador de Elite Model Management, y Jeanette Christiansen, una modelo danesa.

A los 14 años fue sorprendido bebiendo alcohol antes de clase e internado en un centro de rehabilitación dos veces por semana.

Tras sus malas calificaciones, su padre lo envió a estudiar al Instituto Le Rosey en Suiza, al cual asistió durante seis meses; ahí conoció a Albert Hammond Jr., quien más tarde se convirtió en el guitarrista de The Strokes.

La primera producción discográfica de la banda salió a la venta en 2001 bajo el nombre de "Is this it", que recibió buenas críticas tanto de publicaciones independientes como de la industria musical, incluidas cuatro estrellas de parte de la revista "Rolling Stones".

El segundo álbum de la banda "Room on fire", se encuentran temas que consolidaron al grupo como "Reptilia", "12:51" y "The end has no end".

El 5 de febrero de 2005, Julian Casablancas se casó con la asistente de dirección de la banda Juliet Joslin. Para el año 2006 salió el tercer disco de The Strokes "First impressions of Earth".

La agrupación integrada por Julian Casablancas (voz), Nick Valensi y Albert Hammond Jr. (guitarras), Nikolai Fraiture (bajo) y Fabrizio Moretti, (batería), se han hecho acreedores a varios premios desde el año 2002 entre ellos ASCAP Pop Awards, Brit Awards, Meteor Ireland Music Awards y NME Awards.

Georgia Russell

Georgia Russell is a Scottish artist who uses a scalpel instead of a brush or a pen, creating constructions that transform found ephemera, such as books, music scores, maps, newspapers, currency and photographs. Represented by England & Co, she exhibited recent works in the gallery's December exhibition. She currently has three works included in the Holland Paper Biennial at the Coda Museum. Russell's next major exhibition will be held at England & Co in early 2009, and she will also have some works in the gallery's Summer Exhibition in July/August this year.

Ferrofluid

A colloidal suspension of Fe₃O₄ nanoparticles acts as a magnetic "liquid" and forms amazing spikes when a magnet is brought close. The particles act as small compasses marking the magnetic field lines of the magnet.

The ferrofluid you see consists of magnetic nanoparticles suspended in water. As a magnet is brought up to the ferrofluid, spikes form in the fluid and can dance in response to movements of the magnet.
